As an industry leader, we’re serious about our goal to become a fully
sustainable operation. In an effort to become a certified
sustainable winery, we started our Sustainability Initiative
in 2017, but our company has practiced a policy of conservation
since its founding.
We’re honored to receive official Certified California
Sustainable Vineyard & Winery certification from the
California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, an
industry-leading program that audits sustainable practices and
continuous improvement among California’s many vineyards.

Conservation Efforts
-
In an industry first, Robert Hall Winery will initiate a living
case study for the wider wine community to learn about
regenerative viticulture through biodynamic farming
techniques, comparing the results with our sustainably-farmed
vineyards.
-
We worked with BioFiltro to construct the largest worm-powered
winery wastewater system in the world, capable of filtering more
than one million gallons of wastewater per day. A key component
of our ongoing commitment to sustainable practices, BioFiltro’s
patented Biodynamic Aerobic (BIDA®) System enables us to
harness the digestive power of California red wrigglers to
recycle up to 80 million gallons of water a year. These worms will
convert the nutrients from the wastewater into worm castings, a
soil amendment sought after by growers for its microbial
activity, nutrient levels, and ability to improve soil health.
-
Our 5,000 panel solar farm produces approximately 1.037 mil kWh
annually. Our new solar project will put a roof on our employee
parking lot and add additional solar panels.
-
We’ve introduced a grower certification program that
certifies growers who follow sustainability principles. A
large number of our growers are already certified, with our goal
to purchase 100% of our grapes from certified growers by 2022.
